I applaud the current Democratic filibuster in Congress to restart the debate and pass gun restriction legislation. In the four years since Sandy Hook, not one thing has happened to prevent mass shootings with military-style assault weapons, despite the fact that most Americans, and most gun owners, approve of this.

No one’s Second Amendment will be violated if common-sense gun restrictions are passed into law. No ordinary citizen needs an assault weapon that can kill 50 people in minutes. Law enforcement and military leaders espouse banning military-type assault weapons. Let’s move beyond crying, raging, praying and do something.

Fight the NRA and the billions of dollars it has given Congress to not do anything to restrict those weapons. For Congress not to act, after all the lives that have been lost, is unconscionable and immoral. Do what you can — call, write, email Congress, especially those who consistently block legislation.
