For anyone unaware of the new law implemented by our Legislature, lawmakers passed a bill controlling pain medicine for all patients. Trust me, you don’t want you government as your new health care provider (they aren’t doctors). They are putting every patient in the same box and cutting my and most dosages by 80 percent.

I feel the governor has made some good decisions, but this is not one of them. His ego is too big to admit a mistake, so I’m writing to appeal to lawmakers to please do a lot more research. Talk with pain doctors, cancer centers, pain patients, rehabs, and detoxes. We don’t have the resources now. In 18 to 24 months, what you believe is an epidemic now is going to quadruple. This is a health issue that is going to be a law issue that you can’t imagine.

Let’s compare this to other “epidemics.” Obesity, for instance. What if a new law limited everyone to 1,800 calories a day — doesn’t matter if you burn 1,200 or 6,000 calories. All in the same box. Cigarettes. What if a new law limited everyone to three a day? Alcohol, two drinks a day? All in the same box.

The truth is this law needed a lot more research before passing. Prescribing needs to be handled by health care professionals.

Living in pain is awful. My quality of life is not like it should be. Please repeal this bill. There are much better solutions.
