HALLOWELL — “Rocks & Eggs,” an exhibition featuring Tom Gaines’ rock-inspired series of oil paintings paired with Gail Savitz’ series of ceramic egg forms will be on exhibit July 29 through Sept. 3 at Harlow Gallery, 160 Water St. On display side-by-side, these works evoke a visual conversation of texture, form and color as well as other elements — both similar and contrasting with one another.

An opening reception for “Rocks & Eggs” is set for 5-8 p.m. Friday, July 29.

The intent of this show is to allow the viewer to experience the work of a two dimensional painter and a three dimensional artist who share similar concerns with color, surface, shape, scale and most of the formal elements of art. The distinction of the two bodies of work is that the painter expresses his ideas with movement of paint on a surface with images that are created through a series of layered distinct shapes, random color and breaking down the surface through a process of erosion. The egg shape of Savitz is elemental, first born and comes in many iterations.
