A Sanford man was arrested Wednesday night in the death of a Massachusetts man who died after being hit by a motor vehicle on July 4.

York County Sheriff William King Jr. said William George, 41, of Sanford was arrested around 9 p.m. Wednesday and charged with driving after license suspension and accident with death.

George was being Wednesday night in the York County Jail on $1,000 cash bail. He is scheduled to make his initial court appearance Friday.

King said deputies were called to Route 11 in Limerick on July 4 to investigate a report of a pedestrian who had been hit by a driver who fled the scene. Deputies found John Mullin, 47, of Wilmington, Massachusetts, lying unconscious in the road.

Mullin, who was vacationing at a house on Pickerel Pond, was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland. He later died from his injuries.
