A Maine delegate to the Republican convention in Cleveland praised Donald Trump’s acceptance speech saying he hit on all his major policy points.

“I actually thought his speech was excellent,” Rep. Ellie Espling of New Gloucester said late Thursday night in a telephone interview. “He mixed it up quite a bit and was funny and entertaining.”

The assistant minority leader in the Maine House said Trump’s law-and-order message “is really going to hit home with people.”

But the thing that impressed her and other Republicans the most was Trump’s children, who spoke at the convention.

“I think people are very impressed with his family and his kids,” Espling said. “I think we are going to be seeing a lot more of them as we head toward the November election.”

She predicts that Trump has a chance to win Maine in the general election. Espling said his positions on foreign trade policies will resonate with Mainers due to the recent loss of jobs from paper mills.

“Donald Trump understands working people,” she said.
