AUGUSTA – This 1996 home’s unusual address goes back to its first owner, the man who built the house. Needing a name for the new street, he asked his tiny daughter to supply one.

She kept trying to say “peek-a-boo,” but could manage only “pee-boo.”

So Peeboo Lane was named. And unlike the daughter, it hasn’t grown much: There are only two houses. This one, No. 10, sits at the end of the quiet road, on a private, 1.17-acre lot with woods almost ringing the house and lawns, and easterly orientation ensuring excellent light.

At 1,536 square feet on its two levels, the home feels spacious thanks to both open-concept design and good-sized rooms. Off the elevated-entry deck, the main floor welcomes you with an vaulted-ceiling open room that brings kitchen, dining and sitting areas together. Black appliances are newer; floor tile is new. There’s room for different furniture arrangements. A pellet stove supplies generous (auxiliary) heat.

Down the hall are a full bath with soaking tub, opposite a bedroom with two double closets; a walk-through bonus room (office, nursery, crafts room, etc.); and the master suite, whose huge bedroom has plenty of space for a sitting/entertainment area. The full bath has a jetted tub, and the walk-in closet is daylight and 12 feet long.

The lower level adds two more bedrooms, off a sizable family/recreation room with walkout to the end yard. The big utility room provides not only general storage, but also a bin that can hold two tons of pellets. That’s enough to last four years in the economical-to-heat house, whose primary heat source is FHW oil.

The ready-for-gardening lot, much visited by wildlife, has a pair of handy sheds. The location is very convenient to U.S. Route 3/202 and I-95, the new Maine General Hospital, and also to downtown.

The metal-roofed home at 10 Peeboo Lane, Augusta, is listed for sale at $187,000 by Les Priest of Better Homes & Gardens The Masiello Group in Augusta, and is being shown by appointment. Annual taxes are $3,325.
