The Maine Technology Institute approved six new grant applications totaling $45,454 to Maine entrepreneurs.

The awards, made in July, leveraged $48,000 in matching contributions from grant recipients.

Tech Start grants, which are intended help entrepreneurs turn ideas into new, innovative products or services, were awarded to four companies. Saco River Dentistry in Buxton received $5,000 and provided an equal match; Seamade Seaweed Co. in Portland received $5,000 and provided a $6,000 match; Surge Hydro in Belfast received $4,454 and provided a $5,000 match; and Thrivant Health of Portland received $5,000 and provided an equal match.

MTI also awarded a business accelerator grant of $22,000 to Maine Textiles International of Saco, which provided an equal match. Accelerator grants are intended to help developing companies increase their competitiveness.

The state agency that fosters Maine’s technology and startup community also issued a KickStarter grant of $5,000 to Rosemont Market of Portland, which provided an equal match. These grants help companies access federal resources.
