Federal prosecutors say a postal worker who used her position to embezzle more than $4,000 has been sentenced to two years of probation.
Prosecutors say 29-year-old Jayme Temoke of Lewiston committed the crime while working as postmaster relief for the West Poland post office.
They say she embezzled the money by cashing money orders and not reporting their sale until she was able to cover the shortage with the proceeds of later embezzled money orders.
Prosecutors say Temoke explained that she started taking money intending to pay it back during a period of financial difficulty, but she was not able to.
Temoke pleaded guilty in February. The U.S. Postal Service’s Office of Inspector General conducted the investigation.
