CHINA — A single-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon on Route 3 in South China left a 63-year-old woman uninjured but stuck in her car, which had rolled into a ditch.

Patti Kantor, of Fairfield, was extracted from her car by fire and rescue personnel after crashing into a guardrail just west of Alder Park Road, going toward Augusta, according to Eric Verhille, a state trooper assigned to Augusta.

The car struck the end of the guardrail and overturned onto its side in a ditch, Verhille said. While Kantor was not hurt and could have got out of the car under normal circumstances, the doors would not open in the ditch.

The accident was probably the result of fatigue, Verhille said, and drugs, alcohol and speeding were not involved. The car was towed away and probably would be deemed a total loss, Verhille said.

The state Department of Transportation may have to repair the guardrail, as it was damaged in the crash.
