FARMINGTON — Two summer campers of the Fit Girls of Wilton, Lucinda Carroll and Maddie Morton, along with Porgram Director Deb Aseltine, recently stopped by Franklin Memorial Hospital to donate three mason bee houses camp attendees painted with guidance from local artist Mardy Bogar.

Mason bees have a short active life, only foraging for six to eight weeks in the spring, and pose little to no threat of stinging making them an ideal neighbors.

The donated colorful mason bee houses feature multiple drilled holes that provide bees with a natural habitat to lay eggs and multiply, providing for better pollination of fruits and vegetables. In the spring, two bee houses will be placed in the hospital’s healing garden and one near the Hope Harvest Garden by the Stanley Health Center on the hospital’s campus.
