GARDINER — Voices of the Kennebec will continues its celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Pulitzer Prize with its second workshop from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at Gardiner Public Library, 152 Water St.

This six-part series includes presentations, discussions, readings and creative writing inspired by Gardiner and the Kennebec Valley region.

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Barbara Walsh will discuss writing and researching “August Gale: A Father and Daughter’s Journey Into the Storm,” a true story of the deadly 1935 hurricane and her search to learn more about her grandfather who was a man of many secrets.

All events are free and will feature refreshments in the library’s Hazzard Reading Room.

This program is funded in part by the Maine Humanities Council as part of the Pulitzer Prize Centennial Campfires Initiative, a joint venture of the Pulitzer Prizes Board and the Federation of State Humanities Councils, in celebration of the 2016 Centennial of the Prizes.

The initiative seeks to illuminate the impact of journalism and the humanities on American life today, to imagine their future, and to inspire new generations to consider the values represented by the body of Pulitzer Prize-winning work.

For their support for the Campfires Initiative, the program is made possible by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Ford Foundation, Carnegie Corporation of New York, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the Pulitzer Prizes Board and Columbia University.
