OAKLAND — Messalonskee High School girls soccer held the first Shine On Saturday, on Sept. 10, to honor former teammate and friend Cassidy Charette by hosting a girls youth soccer mentoring day.

The event, organized by Varsity Girls Soccer Coach Penny Stansfield and the varsity and junior varsity soccer teams, hosted girls in pre-kindergarten to fifth grade, for games, soccer drills and playing time on the big field with high school players. The young girls received a Cassidy MESSO Strong wristband, which will earn them a Shine On Snack and recognition at girls home games this season.

The event was sponsored by the ShineOnCass Foundation, which was created to educate, inspire and empower youth to shine their own light through acts of kindness and volunteer charitable activities.
