Two men are in custody in the Kennebec County jail after a crime was reported while in progress Tuesday afternoon at the Calumet Club in Augusta.

Augusta police Sgt. Vicente Morris said officers responding to the incident, which was reported at 1:20 p.m., found an injured man who said he had been robbed.

The officers established a perimeter and found the two suspects hiding in the woods soon afterward.

Zachary Magee, 25, of Augusta, and Andrew Hopkins, 24, of Chelsea, were arrested on charges of assault and robbery and are being held in lieu of $5,000 bail.

Morris said the injured man, whose identity he declined to release, was treated at the scene by Augusta Fire and Rescue.

“There are no safety concerns for the public,” he said, adding that the robbery is believed to be a targeted attack.

The incident remains under investigation.
