Colby’s defense and special teams played very well in last week’s season opening 9-7 win over Williams. The Mules know they’ll have to be even better this week when they host Middlebury.

Middlebury is coming off a dominant 40-3 win over Bowdoin. The Panthers gained 517 yards of offense, including 369 via the arm of quarterback Jared Lebowitz, a transfer from Division I UNLV.

Lebowitz completed 66.7 percent of his passes (26 of 39) and threw five touchdown passes.

“He’s very good. He gets rid of the ball very quicky. He’s desicive with his reads. We’ve got to be in our zones and we’ve got to apply a little pressure up front to take him out of his comfort zone,” Colby coach Jonathan Michaeles said.

Against Williams, Colby intercepted a pair of passes and forced two fumbles on special teams. The problem was, the offense gave up the ball four times. That can’t happen again this week, Michaeles said.

“Those are great momentum swings. Now we’ve got to do our part and not give the ball away. That’s been addressed all week,” Michaeles said.
