A Hallowell artist installed his newest painting at Lithgow Public Library on Thursday.

Christopher Cart worked with his wife, Jen Cart, to hang “Stories from the Mezzanine,” a 46.5-by-46.5 inch acrylic painting on canvas featuring the library’s namesake, Llewellyn Lithgow, literary characters, Maine writers and some of the building’s unique architectural details.

The painting was commissioned by the Friends of Lithgow Library and hangs between the older section and the new addition to the library, which re-opened in August after an $11 million renovation and expansion.

Cart also has a large mural hanging at the Capital Judicial Center across the street.
