HAMPDEN — William Salisbury had a goal and an assist to lead the No. 9 Mt. Blue boys soccer team to a 3-0 win over No. 8 Brewer in a Class A North preliminary game Saturday at Hampden Academy.

Tristan McFarlane and Samuel Smith had the other goals for the Cougars (3-9-3), who move on to play at top-ranked Edward Little on Tuesday in the quarterfinals. Hunter Bolduc and Chris Marshall each added an assist and Tucker Carleton made three saves in net.

Drew Baker stopped three shots for Brewer (6-7-2).

GIRLS SOCCER

NO. 7 FREEPORT 2, NO. 10 MARANACOOK 0: Freeport scored once in each half in a Class B South preliminary round win at home.

“We had a really good season, especially after winning just three games last year,” Maranacook coach Travis Magnusson said. “Our big goal was to get into the playoffs, and we did that by winning four of our last five games. The girls had great teamwork, energy and enthusiasm all year. It was a really good group with unbelievalble senior leadership.”

The Black Bears finished the season at 6-7-2.

NO. 8 WISCASSET 2, NO. 9 HALL-DALE 1, OT: Wiscasset avoided the mild upset with the overtime goal in a Class C South preliminary round game.

Hall-Dale finished its season at 6-8-1.

FOOTBALL

PORTSMOUTH ABBEY 36, KENTS HILL 3: Logan Krienz ran for three touchdowns to lead Portsmouth Abbey (2-3) to the Evergreen League win at Readfield.

Krienz’s scores went for 73, 30 and 1 yards, and occurred in the first, second and fourth quarters, respectively. Michael Meads threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Hall, and Ryan Donovan added a 32-yard touchdown run for the Ravens.

Fabien Bick kicked a 23-yard field goal in the first quarter for the Huskies (0-5).
