OAKLAND — Messalonskee High School recently announced that freshman Taylor Doone, sophomore Elena Guarino, junior Jacob Bernatchez and senior Emma Ye were named October Students of the Month.

These students were chosen for their academic improvement/excellence and their contribution to the Messalonskee school community. The students were nominated by MHS faculty members and chosen by the school’s Culture Committee and Leadership Team, according to a news release from the school.

Doone, who plays on the football team, somehow found time to establish the Gold Ribbon Club, a group dedicated to providing support to students with loved ones serving in the military.

Guarino, a member of the soccer team, is vibrant and hardworking at whatever she is engaged in. She is known for being kind and helpful to classmates.

Bernatches, the junior winner, has to balance his commitment to varsity golf with his responsibilities as a student. He enjoys participating in class discussions and makes efforts to encourage classmates to do likewise.

Senior recipient Ye glows with positive energy and always comes to class fully prepared for lessons and assignments. At the same time, she pursues her interest in the Korean language as an independent study as well as her love for dance.

The following Mid-Maine Technical Center Students of the Month also were recognized: Ben Bard (construction technology), Brayden Paine (mass media communications), and Nathan Casey (medical careers).
