The Rangeley Friends of the Arts will sponsor the annual “Walk to Bethlehem” celebration at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, at the Rangeley Inn.

This event that recreates Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem will begin with the reading of Caesar Augustus’ decree that all people must return to the city of their birth. Everyone is invited to join the walk through the village, which will be led by community members costumed as nativity figures. Carols are sung as the procession meanders through the streets of the village of Rangeley, stopping at the different downtown churches for a carol.

When the walkers reach the Church of the Good Shepherd, they will join others in anticipation of the evening’s program: a traditional family oriented Christmas presentation of carols, classical music, dance and drama. The program will begin at approximately 6 p.m.

The finale, a traditional nativity pageant, features many local young people and community members in full costumes. At the conclusion of the event, everyone is invited to share in the holiday spirit and enjoy homemade goodies at the holiday reception, which is held downstairs in the Undercroft.

The event is free, though at-will donations will be accepted. To donate food for the reception, email Linda Sikes at lsikes@bmcfirst.com.
