Portland’s East Bayside will soon have another brewery.

Cardente Real Estate announced Wednesday that it’s leased a nearly 4,000-square-foot space at 219 Anderson St. to GoodFire Brewing LLC for a brewery and 39-seat tasting room. The brewery, located just behind U-Haul on Marginal Way, is expected to open in June.

Brewery owner David Redding, a Portland resident who works as a physician at Maine General Hospital in Augusta, said he has been making his own home brew for three years, and has worked in a brewpub in Rhode Island.

Redding said he has recruited a “team of young, experienced players from around town,” including a head brewer and marketing specialist.

“We’re looking to make beer that we like to drink,” he said. “I love most styles of beer. I feel the same way about beer as I do about music. I don’t dislike anything, but there are some flavors that I truly enjoy more than others and find myself reaching for.”

If he were stranded on a desert island, Redding said, he would want a farmhouse ale, American pale ale and lambic beer. He said he has four recipes he wants to begin with at his new brewery – two hoppy ales, one farmhouse ale and a Berliner weisse.

Redding said he hopes to host community events and educational sessions at his new brewery.

“We would like to be good players in our community,” he said.

The 219 Anderson St. building where GoodFire will be located currently houses Lone Pine Brewery.
