Gardiner residents are invited to bid farewell to Gardiner City Manager Scott Morelli at a community open house in his honor Thursday in the Hazzard Room of the Gardiner Public Library.

After seven years as city manager in this southern Kennebec County city, Morelli has accepted the city manager position at South Portland. Friday is his last day in Gardiner.

The event, hosted by the city of Gardiner’s department heads, is from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Mayor Thom Harnett is expected to speak.

As city manager, Morelli is credited with streamlining city government to mitigate the impact on taxpayers of lost revenue to the city when the state’s revenue-sharing program was curtailed. He also supervised a level of services review that measured how city services are delivered to residents.

Morelli also engineered the acquisition of the blighted T.W. Dick properties so they could qualify for federal and state cleanup funds and be redeveloped. He has supported the Cobbossee Trail project.

The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
