The Franklin County and Somerset County dispatch centers combined for service Tuesday morning to respond to a report of an injured hiker near the Jerome Brook trail in Carrying Place Township in Somerset County.

A dispatcher in Franklin County said the call came in from someone associated with North Star Rescue who was near the scene. A Fire Department crew from New Portland was sent out with a snowmobile for rescue, and Kingfield units also responded.

The initial call came in about 11:20 a.m. The hiker was not thought to be injured badly but was taken by ambulance, probably to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, about 1:15 p.m.

A Franklin County dispatcher said the hiker’s injuries were not believed to be severe. He said no law enforcement agency was involved in the incident. The hiker’s name was not released.
