CHINA — Fire crews were quick late Friday morning to knock down a fire that started in the bathroom of a home at 230 Lakeview Drive.

The South China Fire Department was the first to arrive at the scene and got the fire in the one-story home under control fairly easily, Chief Dick Morse said.

The fire’s cause is unknown so far, Morse said.

The homeowner was inside when a neighbor came over to say she saw smoke coming out of the house, he said. The homeowner left the house uninjured and reported the fire.

While no flames were visible by noon on Friday, the smell of smoke permeated the air.

The bathroom area was the only part of the house that the fire damaged, but the rest of the house may be damaged by the smoke, according to Morse.

Both the China Village and Weeks Mills fire departments assisted at the scene, as did Delta ambulance.

Correction: This story has been updated with the correct address of the home.
