WATERVILLE — Five area residents were part of the 478 seniors who graduated from Colby College in Waterville, May 21, receiving Bachelor of Arts degrees at the college’s 196th commencement. Former Vice President Joe Biden was the guest speaker.

The graduates include Celie M. Deagle, of Canaan, who majored in history and classical civilization, and attended Skowhegan Area High School; Larkin J. Domench, of Union, who majored in global studies and government, and attended Kent School; Maria Ennamorati, of Waldoboro, who majored in biology with a neuroscience concentration, and attended Medomak Valley High School; Calvin C. Robbins, of Waldoboro, who majored in biology with a concentration in cell and molecular biology/biochemistry, and attended Camden Hills Regional High School; and Erin E. Whitney, of Augusta, who majored in government, and attended Cony High School.

Biden spoke to a crowd of more than 3,000 about the need to help the nation return to basic principles of equality and dignity, and to understand each other’s stories to develop a deeper sense of humanity.
