WATERVILLE — A man was taken to the hospital after tipping over on his green riding lawn mower late Wednesday morning.

Rescue personnel were called to a house on Ashley Terrace around 11:09 a.m. after a neighbor, who was outside working on his lawn, heard the lawn mower suddenly turn off, said Waterville-Winslow fire Chief David LaFountain.

The older man mowing the lawn was riding along on a steep embankment along the side of the yard near a section of trees, LaFountain said. He went too far and the mower tipped sideways, sending him into the brush below the embankment.

Luckily, the lawn mower got stuck in the trees, LaFountain said.

The man was taken to MaineGeneral’s Thayer Center for Health, but LaFountain said he didn’t know the extent of his injuries. The man might have had a pre-existing health condition, so the emergency responders were taking precautions, he said.

Fire and rescue personnel used an extrication strap to pull the lawn mower out of the area, where it was hanging upside down and leaking gas. Delta Ambulance also went to the scene.
