A Facebook post showing what appears to be a bobcat walking in the yard of a home in Standish has been shared more than 4,500 times on Facebook.

Angie Turner posted the image Tuesday morning with a warning for people to keep an eye on their children and animals. By 2:30 p.m. the post had more than 340 comments from people surprised to see the big cat.

The cat was photographed on Pond Road, which is off Whites Bridge Road.

According to a comment on the post, the photo was taken by Mary Jenkins. “I grabbed my iPhone and was so excited I didn’t think I would get a picture! He was just looking in the window!” Jenkins wrote.

According to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife website, adult male bobcats weigh between 20 and 30 pounds and average 3 feet in length. They can be various shades between buff and brown and may have spots or stripes on parts of their bodies.
