Eric Becker

A man who South Portland police say is responsible for at least six residential burglaries over a two-month period in Ferry Village was arrested this weekend.

In a statement Sunday evening, police Detective Sgt. Chris Todd identified the man as Eric James Becker, 36. Becker is originally from the Bangor area, but has been living in Portland recently as a transient, Todd said.

Becker allegedly broke into six homes in the Ferry Village neighborhood between May 19 and July 17. Last week, detectives were able to identify him as the suspect.

Becker was arrested Saturday and was charged with burglary, a Class B felony because of prior convictions, and theft, a Class D misdemeanor.

“Some of the reported burglaries remain open investigations and more information cannot be released at this time; however, leads are continuously being followed up on and more charges are expected in the future,” Todd said.
