Nominations for the 2017-18 Maryann Hartman Award and the Maryann Hartman Young Women’s Social Justice Award will be accepted through Nov. 15, with a public celebration planned for March 28 at the University of Maine.

Following a hiatus in 2017, the Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies Program has partnered with UMaine’s Rising Tide Center to continue the tradition of honoring contemporary Maine women by enhancing awareness of their accomplishments.

The Hartman awards are named for the late UMaine associate professor of speech communication who was a renowned educator, feminist, scholar and humanist.

The award recognizes the inspirational achievements of women in the arts, politics, business, education, health care and community service. The Young Women’s Social Justice Award honors the contributions of a high school sophomore or junior who is dedicated to promoting diversity and equality in her community.

Nominations can be submitted mailed to: Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, 5728 Fernald Hall, Suite 201, University of Maine, Orono, Maine 04469.
