It is with great pride that our flags will now flutter in the winds off the Kennebec in our prominent Water Street Granite City Park.
This park was restored from a broken timber and granite bulkhead through a city-designed bond package and paid for by its residents. The City Council subsequently formally bestowed the name to the area while the final touches have been added — the old granite crane, a working symbol of our past, and the shining new flag pole, a symbol of our pride. These were all financed by private donors.
My personal thanks to our City Councils’ vision and, individually, to Al Hague and Gerry Mahoney for their never-ending efforts in the conception and planning for installation of the crane and flag pole.
