The following 14 students from Maine’s 2nd District were nominated by U.S. Rep. Bruce Poliquin, R-2nd District, to attend one of the nation’s prestigious military service academies next year, according to a news release from Poliquin’s Washington office.

The 2017 nominees:

• Tristan Cosby, of Houlton High School, was nominated to attend the U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Military Academy, and U.S. Air Force Academy;

• Cody Craig, a home-schooled student of Skowhegan, was nominated to attend the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy;

• Elizabeth Diaz, a Kent Hill School student of Jay, was nominated to attend U.S. Merchant Marine Academy;

• Haley Donovan, a Calais High School student of Crawford, was nominated to attend the U.S. Air Force Academy;

• Elinor Haldane, a George Stevens Academy student of Blue Hill, was nominated to attend U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy;

• Chase Harkins, a Gould Academy student of Bethel, was nominated to attend the Military Academy;

• Alexander Howell, of Islesboro Central School, was nominated to attend the U.S. Naval Academy;

• Alexander Inman, a Bangor High School student of Eddington, was nominated to attend the U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy and U.S. Naval Academy;

• Anthony Mason, a Greenville High School student of Beaver Cove, was nominated to attend the U.S. Naval Academy;

• Maria Maxsimic, a Brewer High School Student of Holden, was nominated to attend the U.S. Naval Academy and U.S. Air Force Academy;

• Emily Mikoud, of Foxcroft Academy, was nominated to attend the U.S. Military Academy;

• Emily Mousseau, of Lewiston High School, was nominated to attend the U.S. Naval Academy;

• Connor Roy, of Hampden Academy, was nominated to attend the U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Military Academy, and U.S. Air Force Academy;

• Anna Sewall, a Schenck High School student of East Millinocket, was nominated to attend the U.S. Naval Academy.

The nominations were informed by the recommendations of his distinguished Service Academy Nomination Advisory Board, which personally interviewed student applicants last month in Bangor. That board included military, community and educational leaders and had nearly 200 years of combined service in the U.S. Army, Air Force, Marines and Navy.

To be considered for appointment to a service academy, applicants must be nominated by a Member of Congress or other authorized nominating source.

The application period for 2nd District students seeking nomination to a military service academy from Poliquin in 2018 will open in May.
