BOYS BASKETBALL

Maranacook 37, Erskine 31:Any defensive game plan against the Maranacook boys basketball team begins with containing junior Ben Johnson.

Erskine made the 6-foot-7, 250-pound lefty work for his shots Friday night, but the big guy came through when it counted most, leading the visiting Black Bears to a win in Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B play.

Johnson finished with 16 points, 12 in the second half, including three in a row in the fourth quarter each time the Eagles (6-2) crept to within two points.

"I think we did a good job boxing him out," Erskine guard Tyler Harvey said.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Erskine 49, Maranacook 30:Kasi Hudson scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Eagles to the KVAC Class B win in Readfield.

Erskine (3-5) outscored the Black Bears (2-5) 32-18 in the second half to earn the win.

Ashlie Clark added seven points for the Eagles while Hannah Clough scored 15 for Maranacook.

December 30

BOYS BASKETBALL

Erskine 56, MCI 50:Tyler Harvey scored eight of his 16 points in the fourth quarter as the Eagles outscored the Huskies 17-7 to rally to a KVAC B win in South China.

Garrett Holt added six points in the fourth quarter and finished with 13 points and 14 rebounds for Erskine (6-1). Harvey also had five assists. Steven Wight chipped in with 15 points. Jacob Hunt scored 18 points for MCI, while Nick Cook chipped in with 12.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Erskine 58, MCI 33:Kaitlyn Honea made eight field goals and scored a game-high 18 points as the Eagles won on the road in KVAC B.

Erskine (2-5) outscored the Huskies 23-7 in the fourth quarter to ice the game. Kristy Huff and Ashley Kitchin finished with seven points to lead MCI (0-7).

December 23

BOYS BASKETBALL

Erskine 53, Belfast 38:The Eagles went on a 19-2 in the third quarter to break open a two-point game and pick up the KVAC B win in Belfast.

Nick Grady scored six of his 10 points in the third, while Steven Wight, Devon Veilleux and Tyler Harvey each had a three in the quarter.

Garrett Holt finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Eagles (5-1). Derek Bernosky had 11 points for Belfast (1-5).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Belfast 35, Erskine 28:Brittany Dyer had 10 points as the Lions defeated the Eagles in a KVAC B game in South China.

Megan Helm had 12 points of Erskine (1-5).

Belfast improves to 3-3.

December 18

BOYS BASKETBALL

Erskine 60, Gardiner 48: Garrett Holt scored a game-high 16 points and Nick Grady added 13 to lead Erskine Academy in South China. Steven Wright added 12 points for the Eagles (4-1), who led 26-20 at the half. Jordan Grant scored a team-high 14 points for the Tigers (3-2). Eric Goodwin added 13 for Gardiner.

December 16

BOYS BASKETBALL

Erskine 39, Winslow 31: Tyler Harvey made 3 of 4 foul shots down the stretch as the Eagles held on for a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B win over the Black Raiders in South China. Erskine (3-1) used its pressure defense to hold Winslow to just 11 points in the second half. Harvey finished with eight, while Steven Wight had 10 and Devon Veilleux 7.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Winslow 57, Erskine Academy 31: Lindsay Gordon scored 13 points to lead four players in double figures as the Black Raiders beat the Eagles in a KVAC B game in Winslow. Megan Pelletier and Elizabeth Ferry both added 12 points, while Kelsea Bouchard had 11 for Winslow (3-0). Kaci Hudson and Megan Helm had seven each for Erskine (0-4).

December 15

BOYS BASKETBALL

Medomak Valley 49, Erskine Academy 32: Lacy Massengale scored 15 points as the Panthers beat the Eagles in a KVAC B game in South China. Danielle Dyer added 11 for Medomak Valley, which improves to 3-1. Megan Helm had 10 for Erskine Academy (0-3).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Medomak Valley 51, Erskine 45: Alex McKenzie scored 15 of his 29 points in the third quarter to lead the Panthers to the KVAC Class B win in Waldoboro. Alex Goldrup added 15 points for Medomak (3-0). Nick Grady and Devin Veilleux each scored 13 points for Erskine (2-1).

December 13

BOYS BASKETBALL

Erskine 44, Lincoln 41 Tyler Harvey made a steal and scored with under a minute left to give Erskine Academy a two-point lead and the Eagles head on for a 44-41 win over Lincoln Academy in Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B boys basketball action on Saturday.
Harvey scored 12 of Erskine's 13 points in the fourth quarter. He finished with a team-high 21 points for Erskine (2-0), which trailed by eight with four minutes left in the fourth quarter.
Garrett Holt added six points, 13 rebounds and six assists. Ben McLaine had 10 points to lead Lincoln Academy (1-1).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Lincoln 48, Erskine 27 Stephanie Winchenbach and Kari Jones each had 17 points as Lincoln beat Erskine in a KVAC B game in Newcastle. Megan Helm scored 10 points for Erskine (0-2).
December 6

BOYS BASKETBALL

Erskine 46, Oak Hill 39 Tyler Harvey had 17 points and Erskine Academy gave head coach Ben Willoughby a win in his debut, beating Oak Hill High School 46-39 in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B boys basketball opener for both teams Friday.
Garrett Holt added eight points and Steven Wight six for Erskine. Ben Rines had 14 points and four rebounds, while Ben Foss had 10 points and four boards for Oak Hill.
