CHINA LAKES REGION
The three major bodies of water in China include China Lake, Three Mile Pond, and Branch Pond.
China Lake is a 3,922-acre lake located just outside Augusta. Hilly farmland and lakeside camps ring the shoreline, and the lake has a maximum depth of 85 feet. The shoreline may be crowded in springtime, during the white perch run, but boaters rarely experience crowded conditions. China Lake offers fishing from boats or canoes, or from the shore. There are boat launches at the northern and southern end of the lake.

China Region Lakes Alliance: Founded to preserve and protect the water quality of area lakes through education and erosion control work. Members include the towns of China, Vassalboro, and Windsor, the China Lake, Three Mile Pond, Webber Pond, and Three Cornered Pond Associations and the Kennebec Water District. Friends of China Lake: An independent environmental organization founded in 2000 in response to the need of a voice for environmental and flood hazards with China Lake. Friends of China Lake is a growing member supported organization doing research and informing the residents of China and Vassalboro of the hazards and effects resulting from the intentional increases since 1969 in water levels at China Lake. Friends Camp: (Quaker Camp) is a coed, overnight summer camp for youth from ages 7 to 17 years old, located on 65 acres of fields and woods, with a waterfront area on the beautiful shores of China Lake, in the village of South China.
