Data: Maine’s suicide rate is higher than the nation’s average – and rising

Maine’s average suicide rate is higher than the national average, but still remains below rates in many other rural states.

Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicates that Maine’s suicide rate, like the nation’s as a whole, is trending upwards.

In 2014, Maine had 220 reported suicides – a rate of 16.54 suicides per 100,000 residents. The national rate was 13.41 per 100,000 people.
