CVA Olympic hopefuls
Carrabassett Valley Academy, located at the base of Sugarloaf USA, has gained a reputation as one of the finest ski academies in the nation, producing 11 former Olympic athletes who had won three gold medals, three silvers and a bronze. This winter, a dozen CVA graduates are competing for spots on various Olympic teams for the Sochi Games next month. They are listed below with the year they last attended or graduated from CVA in parentheses, followed by their event and the country they hope to represent.
  • Jeremy Cota (2007)

    Born: 1988

    Hometown: Greenwood

    Details: Cota is a seven-time World Cup dual moguls medalist (two silver, two bronze) and a two-time National Champion in Dual and Single moguls. Cota joined the U.S. Ski Team in the 2010 season.

  • Emily Cook (1997)

    Event: Aerials

    Country: USA

    Born: 1979

    Hometown: Belmont, Mass.

    Olympic experience: 2006, 2010

    Details: Cook has an impressive record, including nine World Cup medals (three gold, one silver, five bronze), 44 World Cup top-10 finishes, and is a six-time U.S. champion.

  • Annalisa Drew (2012)

    Event: Halfpipe

    Country: USA

    Born: 1993

    Hometown: Andover, Mass.

    Details: Drew is a crossover athlete who competes in slopestyle and half pipe. In the 2013 X Games, Drew made history as the first woman to attempt a 1260 in a competition.

  • Corey Vanular (2006)

    Event: Slopestyle

    Country: Canada

    Born: 1987

    Hometown: Niagara-On-The-Lake, Ontario

    Details: Vanular began competing at age 12. In 2006 he placed first at the U.S. Open slopestyle, first in Gravity games halfpipe, and most recently first at the Red Bull Jib Ski Kings.

  • Dave DiGravio (2005)

    Event: Moguls

    Country: USA

    Born: 1986

    Hometown: Farmington

    Details: DiGravio was an avid skier from a very early age. At the 2004 Junior Olympics, he won the dual moguls title, took bronze in halfpipe and finished fourth in moguls. Then in 2005, DiGravio took silver in mogul and bronze in duals.

  • Nessa Dziemian (2012)

    Event: Moguls

    Country: USA

    Born: 1994

    Hometown: East Hampstead, N.H.

    Details: Dziemian has competed for the U.S. development team and has three podium finishes on the NorAm tour, including one win.

  • Seth Wescott (1994)

    Event: Snowboardcross

    Country: USA

    Born: 1976

    Hometown: Farmington

    Olympic experience: Won gold medal in 2006 and 2010

    Details: At his Olympic debut in 2006, Wescott solidified his spot in snowboardcross history when he became the first man to win Olympic gold in his sport. He went on to defend his title in 2010.

    Born: 1990

    Hometown: Stratton

    Details: Tuttle has won 19 World Cup starts since his 2009 debut and has had two X Games invitations.

  • Jamie Prebble (2010)

    Event: Moguls

    Country: New Zealand

    Born: 1991

    Hometown: Christchurch, New Zealand

    Details: Prebble competed in the Audi FIS SX World Cup circuit, the 2013 world Alpine championships, and the world freestyle championships in 2013.

  • Nick Prebble (2010)

    Event: Moguls

    Country: New Zealand

    Born: 1993

    Hometown: Christchurch, New Zealand

    Details: Took first place at the Borrufa Cup in Andorra in 2006, and first place at New Zealand nationals for junior men in 2012. He also placed 42nd at world Alpine ski championships, Super-G, Schladming, Austria, in 2013.

  • Bode Miller (1996)

    Event: Alpine

    Country: USA

    Born: 1977

    Hometown: Easton, N.H.

    Olympic experience: 2006, 2010

    Details: One of the most successful Alpine skiers in American history, Miller is a two-time World Cup overall champion, four-time world champion and five-time Olympic medalist.

  • Alex Tilley (2011)

    Event: Alpine

    Country: England

    Hometown: Torphins, Aberdeenshire

    Born: 1993

    Details: Tilley's first major achievement was being selected for Topolino in Italy in 2006. She finished the 2011 season as British giant slalom champion, and Junior 2 overall champion.
