SKOWHEGAN — A Pittsfield neuropsychologist was indicted Friday by a Somerset County grand jury on a charge of fondling a former child patient.

Mark Morin, 43, of 102 N. Main St., was charged with unlawful sexual contact for offenses that allegedly occurred between April and September of last year in Pittsfield.

Morin practices in Dover-Foxcroft, said Maine State Police Detective Robin Parker.

Morin was one of 17 people named in indictments handed down by the grand jury Friday afternoon after two days of deliberations.

Three men were indicted for an unsuccessful attempt to rob a Skowhegan man in his home last November. A Skowhegan man was indicted on a charge of aggravated assault stemming from a Cornville car accident last May that left another man in a coma.

Unlawful sexual contact is punishable by up to five years in prison under Maine criminal statutes.

Parker said Morin's alleged victim was a former patient and a child of a former patient.

"If there's anybody that may have been a former patient of his that had had concerns about inappropriate conduct that they contact me directly" by calling the Augusta State Police Dispatch Center at 1-800-452-4664.

Steven Dumont, 21, of 511 Troy Road, Detroit; John Williford, 20, of 27 Waterville Road, Apt. 10, Skowhegan; and Jeffrey Thompson, 21 of 8 Loop Road, Newport, were indicted on charges of burglary, theft, robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.

Assistant District Attorney James Mitchell said the trio broke into a Pine Street home and stole a safe. When they failed to find what they wanted inside they went back to the house and, after cutting the telephone lines, two of them entered the home while the third waited in the getaway car, he said.

One of the men stayed by the homeowner, who was napping in a recliner, while the other went upstairs, Mitchell said.

The homeowner awakened and "came up out of the chair. He was a fairly large man. He pushed one of them into the other. They tripped over their own feet, and he pretty much stomped on one of the guys. Then they fled," the prosecutor said.

Dumont is now serving a sentence for burglary and theft. Thompson has been arrested. Williford is still being sought, Mitchell said.

Jason Chesley, 23, of 18 Dawes St., Skowhegan, was indicted on charges of operating under the influence and aggravated assault in connection with a May 12, 2002 accident in Cornville that left his passenger, Nick Molley, in a coma from which he has not recovered.

Elwood Gordon, 35, of 34 Preble Ave., Madison was indicted on charges of burglary, stealing drugs, and conspiracy to commit burglary in connection with a Dec. 16 break-in at Taylor's Drug Store in Madison where thieves cut a hole in the side of the building and took several bottles of Noproxin, a muscle relaxant.

Douglas Garneau, 40, of 26 Brown Drive, Norridgewock was indicted on a charge of arson. Mitchell said Gordon meant to torch his ex-wife's car, but got the wrong vehicle then "bragged to a friend about it."
