'No Place to Hide' for Maine's economy
When it comes to Maine's economic future, a recent study stated boldly that the state has "No Place to Hide."

Education, technology in place to build on
In recent years, Maine has made significant strides in preparing the people of the state and the state's infrastructure for the "New Economy," according to "No Place to Hide," a report from the Institute for a Strong Maine Economy. But, the report noted, when outsiders look at Maine and compare it to the other 49 states, there are still major problems and gaps that inhibit full economic growth in Maine.

A bridge to opportunity
Construction of Augusta's newest bridge over the Kennebec River is fully under way, and planners are painting a bright picture of its impact on the East Side of the city.

Energy efficiency must be priority
In an address to the September Energy & Technology Expo 2002 at the University of Southern Maine's Gorham campus, Neil Elliott, senior associate and program director for the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy in Washington, D.C., gave high marks to Maine as, "A leader in energy efficiency."

Lakes, museums and moose
What first springs to mind at the mention of Maine? While sweeping ocean vistas, complete with lobster and lighthouses would seem a likely answer, statistics show it's not the only one. Maine is just as prized, by natives and tourists alike, for its mountains and woodland wilderness.
