The Navy’s high-tech Zumwalt destroyer heads down the Kennebec River on Wednesday after leaving Bath Iron Works. The 610-foot Zumwalt, which has been under construction at BIW for seven years, is bound for Baltimore, where it will receive its commission from the U.S. Navy. The $4 billion naval warship, the largest and most technologically advanced ever built, will eventually call San Diego its homeport. The Zumwalt’s angular shape is intended to minimize its radar signature. (Associated Press/Robert F. Bukaty)
