Alan Libby, who is homeless, marches up Preble Street during Wednesday’s vigil in Portland. Libby, who will move to a home in Rumford in January, said he was participating in the event to remember his friend Randy, who died a week ago. During the annual vigil, held on the evening of the winter solstice, Portland mourns the loss of its most vulnerable; this year, 32 homeless people died in the city.
