Brian Buker was my husband’s cousin. My husband also received a Purple Heart in Vietnam. Obviously, I would like to see Benton Elementary renamed in Brian’s honor. Since so many people seem to be against it, however, I would like to offer what I think is the perfect solution.
The school could be renamed the Benton-Buker Elementary School. The school wouldn’t have to spend money on a bunch of frivolous stuff involving a new name, and saying it would cost $100,000 is ridiculous.
Just having the appropriate sign in front of the school would be fine to start, then the new name could be phased in over time as the school ran out of things with the old name.
