FARMINGTON — A 55-year-old man was killed by a bull early Friday morning at Sandy River Farms.

Ernest Bubar was pinned to the ground by the bull after he tried to herd the animal back to the farm by himself, according to a statement released by the farm’s owners.

Other farm workers eventually got the bull away from Bubar, who was then taken by ambulance to Franklin Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries, according to the release.

Bubar, who has worked at the family farm for 12 years, noticed the bull was in the wrong pasture. He tried to get the bull back by himself when it hit him and pinned him to the ground, the release said.

Bubar used his cell phone to call other workers in the dairy barn for help, and they managed to secure the bull. The workers helped paramedics move Bubar from the pasture to the ambulance.

L. Herbert York and his wife, Brenda, operate the 600-acre dairy and crop farm on Farmington Falls Road, according to the farm’s website.

Farm officials didn’t return messages seeking details of the accident.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragedy. Ernie was a devoted employee of our family farm for many years and will be missed by all,” the farm’s owners said in the statement.

Farmington police responded to the farm accident.
