The incoming principal at Coffin Elementary School in Brunswick is on paid administrative leave following his arrest Tuesday in Freeport.

Greg Scott, 56, former principal of the Longfellow School, dropped items at the Freeport recycling center when it was closed, according to a report in the Brunswick Times Record. Later that day, two Freeport police officers came to Scott’s home in Freeport to discuss the incident, and Scott wound up being arrested and charged with criminal trespass, theft of services, assault and refusal to submit to arrest or detention.

Gregory J. Bartlett, assistant superintendent of Brunswick schools, today confirmed details of the incident.

Bartlett said an internal investigation is underway. “We’re just going to follow up with the facts of the investigation,” he said.

The Longfellow School closed this spring. Scott worked at the school for 23 years.
