PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — It turns out there was no bear there after a bear scare in Portsmouth.

Police issued a warning Saturday night to keep pets indoors when it was reported that a bear was in a tree. The Portsmouth Herald says Dave Cokely kept his video camera pointed at the unidentified brown creature that was nestled two stories high in his maple tree.

As he taped the animal waking and yawning, Cokely realized there was no bear there. Instead, it was a really big raccoon.

A neighbor had reported a brown, fuzzy creature in a tree earlier, leading to a small commotion and the warning.
