PITTSTON — A local man was flown to a Lewiston hospital Saturday after crashing his motorcycle on Pinkham Road.
Daniel Pelletier, 44, of Pittston, was taken by a LifeFlight of Maine helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center with arm, leg and chest injuries, said Capt. Daniel Davies of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office. The injuries were not believed to be life threatening.
Pelletier was not wearing a helmet.
The crash occurred around 2 p.m. Saturday as Pelletier was driving his 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle north on Pinkham Road. Pelletier rounded a curve near the Patterson Road intersection at the same time as a 2002 Ford Focus, which was being driven south on Pinkham Road by Clyde Sewell, 74, of Rockland, attempted to turn left onto Patterson Road.
Sewell’s Ford turned into the path of Pelletier’s motorcycle, Davies said. Pelletier swerved and avoided Sewell’s car, but the motorcycle left the road and went off into the shoulder.

Police try to curb underage drinking
Local police are stepping up efforts to curtail underage drinking.
Augusta Deputy Chief Jared Mills announced recently that 25 officers from Augusta, Hallowell, Gardiner, Monmouth and Winthrop police departments and Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office have been assigned to the Southern Kennebec Substance Abuse Task Force.
The force will conduct special patrols during popular summer events and celebrations and respond to reports of private parties throughout Kennebec County.
More than three dozen underage drinking-related violations have been processed since May, Mills said.
“Underage drinking is illegal because it puts both the youthful drinker and the general public at high risk,” he said.
Mills urged anyone who learns of an underage drinking party, or those who furnish alcohol to minors, to contact their local police or the sheriff’s department. “Anyone planning a party that includes illegal underage alcohol consumption should keep in mind that members of the task force may invite themselves to the party,” Mills said.
Funding for the enforcement effort is provided by grants from the Office of Substance Abuse and the Southern Kennebec Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention and Healthy Communities of the Capital Area.
