SANGERVILLE — Officials say a Dover-Foxcroft woman was in critical condition after being impaled by a tree branch that crashed through her car windshield during a storm.
Rory Schmand was driving on Douty Hill Road at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday when the branch went through the windshield, striking the 47-year-old woman between the eyes. She was flown to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for treatment.
Investigator Guy Dow of the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department said a witness told him he was outside cleaning up when he heard a crack and saw the branch crash through the windshield of Schmand’s Ford Explorer. Dow said the man smashed out a window so he could unlock the vehicle’s door and reach Schmand.
