CHELSEA — Diane Richard of Chelsea was recently named this year’s recipient of the town’s Spirit of America award.

Richard organized and helped operate the Chelsea Food Bank, located in the River Rock Church.

She has been a Chelsea resident for 11 years, where she lives with her partner Mark and sons Tim, 14, and 7-year-old twins Ricky and Rex.

AUGUSTA — The following local students have rencently graduated from Capilo Institute and are eligible to receive licenses in their fields: Alicia Lund of Chelsea and Nicole Sirois in Augusta, both in cosmetology; Gale Blake of Whitefield, Erron Dionne of Augusta, Amber Tardiff of Gardiner and Alexandra Twarog of Fayette, all nail technician students; and Caitlin Hopler of Waldoboro and Krista Oberuch of Alna, both esthetician students.

BETHEL — Several local artists were recognized recently at the Mahoosuc Arts Council’s 22nd annual art fair at Bethel Common.

Rex Holsapple of Mount Vernon received Best of Show — Photography for a still life.

Ronald Simons of Readfield received honorable mention in photography for a portrait.

Heidi Wilde of Livermore Falls received Best of Show — Artisan for a reverse painting of acrylic on glass.

Irina Kahn, professor of art and president of the Western Maine Art Group in Norway, judged the show.
