PITTSFIELD — Maine is known for its lobster and clam festivals.

The Central Maine Egg Festival kicks off today in Pittsfield and continues through Saturday.

The festival was founded in 1973 to celebrate the region’s egg industry.

During the week, the festival will hold musical performances, a street dance, arts and crafts, food and a road race.

And to make the event complete, the festival also has the “Egg-lympics,” a set of events for children that include an egg relay race and an egg toss.
