BREMERTON, Wash. — Madison’s Seth Sweet shot a second-round, three-over-par 75 at the U.S. Junior Amateur Golf Championship on Tuesday to qualify for today’s match play. Sweet, who will be a senior at Madison Area Memorial High School this fall, shot 77 Monday for a two-day total of 152. The top 64 golfers from a field of 128 advanced to match play which concludes with 36 holes on Saturday.
First-round leader Jeff Hossler of Mission Viejo, Calif., led all qualifiers with a two-day total of 68-67 — 135.

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Maine Amateur champion Ryan Gay of Pittston and the Augusta Country Club shot a second round 68 at the New England Amateur Golf Championship on Tuesday at Metacomet Country Club. Gay finished as low Maine competitor but failed to make the cut of 144 after shotting an opening round 79.
Peter Williamson of Hanover, N.H., shot 67 Tuesday and held a one-shot lead at 131. The field was cut to the low 40 plus ties after Tuesday’s round. The tournament concludes with 36 holes today.
