ROCKWOOD — Just past seven months after he disappeared near Moosehead Lake while kayaking, a Maine man’s body was recovered and tentatively identified.

James Russell’s body was discovered Saturday morning by kayakers, according to the Maine Warden Service. Russell, of Rockwood, disappeared Nov. 14. His body was taken to the Medical Examiner’s office in Augusta.

He was tentatively identified by his clothing, which matched description of what he was wearing at the time of his disappearance.

Russell was 51 and was last seen working on a carpentry project on Sand Bar Way in Rockwood, in rural Somerset County.

During the search immediately after he was reported missing, residents found Russell’s kayak and backpack floating near the town’s Murray Road. His bicycle was also found.
