AUGUSTA — A 91-year-old World War II veteran from Brunswick is receiving a Maine Silver Star Honorable Service Medal.

Herman Boudreau is receiving the medal at a ceremony today at the Maine National Guard headquarters in Augusta. Silver Star medals are given to veterans who are former prisoners of war or Purple Heart recipients.

Boudreau served with the 103rd Infantry Division of the Maine Army National Guard while in the Pacific. He was awarded the Purple Heart and other awards for the Guadalcanal, Northern Solomons and New Guinea campaigns in World War II.

Boudreau continued to serve in the Maine Army National Guard until his retirement in 1968.
