LAGRANGE — The Maine Warden Service says two girls were hurt when the stolen ATV they were riding hit a gate on a railroad bed in Lagrange.

Wardens says the girls, aged 13 and 14, were riding on one ATV and a 16-year-old boy was riding on another when the girls hit the cross bar of a heavy metal gate and were knocked off the machine. No names were released.

The ATVs had allegedly been stolen from a local camp.

The girls were taken to the Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. One has leg injuries. The other has head lacerations and internal injuries. The seriousness of the injuries is not known.

None of the riders were wearing helmets.

Wardens say speed and driver inexperience contributed to the crash.
