BANGOR — Bangor Police say a man was crushed to death while working on a natural gas line project in the city.

Police haven’t released the name of the victim from the Wednesday incident because his family hasn’t been notified.

Police wouldn’t say if the man who died was operating the excavator or if he was near it when it rolled onto him.

The Bangor Daily News says the machine, a backhoe, apparently rolled down a short embankment on Odlin Road and came to rest on its side.

The incident remains under investigation.
